Website instructing International Anoop fans how to vote for Anoop Desai outside of the United States. Third most popular site on Google Blogs.
As an American Idol fan many times I look around on different sites that pertain to American Idol. One of those sites is a place called votefortheworst.com. For those who don’t know Votefortheworst.com or VFTW, it is a popular website for people who consider themselves the Anti-Idol site. The people there dissect the American Idol show and have uncovered some dramatic things about some of the contestants and the workings behind one of the countries most popular shows, American Idol. Votefortheworst was the site that discovered the notorious David Hernandez stripper information and this year found the male-on-male Adam Lambert kissing photos.
This weekend I was doing my usual visitation of different American Idol sites and visited the VFTW site. There was a post in the one of threads regarding Anoop Desai. One of the posters there said they found a link to International Anoop Desai supporters advising other overseas contestants on how to cheat and send votes to him. I thought it was some sort of fluke and probably a site that was not visited to often, until I typed in “Anoop Desai” in Google Blogs. I was surprised to find out that the third most viewed blog was an Anoop Desai fan site with clear instructions for International Idol viewers on how to vote for Anoop Desai. The title of the blog was
ANOOP’ RS GLOBAL EXPERIMENT created by someone named Mia R.
Here is the link
http://www.anoopdog.com/2009/04/04/anooprs-global-experiment/
The site has instructions how to cheat to keep someone in the comepition who I wrote in an early blog I believe was “Unmarketable” and would not be ‘current’ in today’s music.
Here is what I wrote in an earlier blog:

It is the Revenge of the Nerds all over again. Well Off Suburban kid wants to be R/B Soul singer, has large fan base…but why? Not marketable or commercial.
Anoop is one of those contestants who has a large fan base. A large fan base does not guarantee commercial success. Taylor Hicks and Blake Lewis had large fan bases but after the show that did not transfer into commercial or market success. The Noop-Troop reminds me of the Soul Patrol. Fanatical fans who don’t recall that Anoop did terribly the three times out of the four he has appeared on Idol. His fans and some music critics have raved about Anoop’s “You Were Always On My Mind”, but forget the disaster that was “Beat It” just the week before. They have short term memory. Yet his fanbase is extremely vocal that Anoop is the next coming of Elvis/Kanye/Ne-yo. I believe they need to step back and watch Anoop’s performances without their rose-colored glasses.
Let’s start off with this big question; What type of music would Anoop-dawg do after the show? Fans have said Anoop will do Soul and R/B. They have compared him to Ne-yo and John Legend. Earth to Noop-troopers, Anoop is no Ne-yo or John Legend. Anoop Desai would have limited success in Soul and R/B music. He is not marketable, especially in that genre. So what would that leave him with? Rock, Punk, Country? Yes, there are videos of Anoop singing Barber Shop Quartet or Boyz 2 Men type music. So when was the last time Boyz 2 Men were popular? Decades ago. No young Urban teen or pre-teen that is into Soul and R/B would fall over themselves to put up a poster of Anoop or claim they were in the Noop-troop.
Then there is Anoop’s looks. Anoop looks like a nerd. Like Kevin Covais and red headed John Stevens put together. His hairstyle is outdated like one of those old shows from the 1950s – 60s. His body is oddly shaped and does not look fit. Anoop is 21 years of age, but looks older with his heavy five o’clock shadow and bushy eyebrows that look like they would meet in the center like a ‘unibrow’. He will only look even worse as he ages. Anoop does not have teen idol looks which are important if you want to capture the teen music market. Also Anoop’s dancing is ridiculous and laughable at best. Like a Suburban kid who wants to be Urban. Simon was correct during his horrible rendition of “Beat It”, Anoop is just a plain looking OK karaoke singer. OK karaoke singer does not translate into an American Idol. Anoop also has never written any music or songs.
Because he has a large fanbase, Anoop will have a large ‘fail’ after the show. His fans will try to prove me wrong, but step back and take a real good look and watch the previous Anoop performances besides Country week. One out of four good performances does not make great singer performer.
I was proven right this week when Anoop Desai, who by the way has not been a consistent performer on the show, once again bombed on stage when Anoop tried to do Usher’s “Caught Up”. It was a complete disaster. The judges called Anoop a “wannabe” which I completely agree. Anoop said after his song that his goal is to be a R/B recording performer-singer after the Idol tour is over.
Bottom line, Mr. Anoop Desai, sir, you are no R/B artist.
R/B artists are Ne-yo, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Chris Brown, Rihanna, T-Pain and Akon. Anoop is not like any of them. There is not one similarity to any of the top R/B singers and Anoop Desai.
R/B comes from Blues and Gospel. Many R/B songs come from the African American experience they suffered in the early times when they faced hardship. The performers I mentioned who are true current R/B artists, besides being great singers, are also fantastic dancers. Anoop is not, and his R/B Soul singing is extremely sub par, compared to Ne-yo and Chris Brown. Most successful R/B singers are pleasant to the eyes and Anoop is lacking in that department, plus not understanding the true meaning of R/B and Soul.
Kara was completely correct when she stated that Anoop was probably coaxed by his ‘frat boy’ friends to sing Usher’s “Caught Up” because basically that is what Anoop is, a well off frat boy who sings in some sort of frat boy singing group at UNC. Anoop could not even handle the constructive criticism when the judges advised him on how to improve his performance. He became extremely disgusted and he displayed an arrogance that was not pretty to see. It was like no one has ever told Anoop the truth before that he would never, ever be a heavy duty R/B singer in the music business. When Anoop said he was going to establish himself as an “R/B artist” I almost spit up my Coke with laughter and wondered if Anoop really heard himself or watched his performances he would certainly give up that ludicrous idea right there and then, but I guess being an only child of two elderly parents no one has ever told Anoop anything that would upset him. That is until the judges told him the truth in front of millions of viewers. His face could not hide the disgust of someone daring to tell him the truth. Well I for one am glad that someone finally had the guts to tell Anoop the truth. Many International voters don’t understand the dynamics of the United States music market, especially in the R/B genre. In the United States R/B has a “street”, “urban” feel and sound to it. To be successful in R/B in the States you have to have ‘street cred’ to pull it off. Frankly Anoop does not have that and would find it difficult to pull if off in the R/B genre.
As for those International Anoop Desai voters who plan on cheating to advance Anoop to the next round, you are only making the idea of Anoop being an “R/B artist” more of a joke.
So I suggest to the International Troopers who plan on cheating in large groups to you use your money for better things then advancing Anoop any further by underhanded ways. Use that money for the betterment of the world, and not to cheat on some American TV show. If Anoop advances and replaces more talented singers in the competition there would only be adverse and negative feelings towards him and many people would be turned off, especially if viewers of Idol overseas are using underhanded methods and displaying them under Google Blogs for the world to see.
One thing we viewers of American Idol hate more than a bad singer are people who cheat.

There is one contestant almost every year. The one that makes you scratch your head and wonder ‘How did he or she get that high up in the competition’? You ask yourself “Who is voting for this person”?
While last year the top 6 or 7 contestants on American Idols season 7 were extremely commercial and marketable this season might be another season 5. Yes we all remember season 5. That is the season that people voted in mass for Taylor Hicks over the more marketable Chris Daugherty
Now season 5 is the most prolific season that almost made American Idol a big joke, last year season 7 brought back respectability to American Idol with some outstanding, and also marketable contestants.
While many people loved the jovial Taylor Hicks and had a massive early fanbase called the “Soul Patrol”, Hicks was a record company’s nightmare.
Hicks had limited success across the board appeal for the general public, besides his base which were older middle-aged woman. Teens and Pre-teens would never be caught dead wearing a Taylor Hicks T-shirt or buying a magazine with Hicks face on it. I seriously doubt there were any Taylor Hicks posters in any teen’s room or college dorm, while I have seen countless Daugherty posters and Daugherty music videos on MTV and Vh1.
Now let’s see how American Idol, 2009, season 8 adding up. As I have written earlier there are five contestants who would translate commercially. They are Adam Lambet, Allison Iraheta, Kris Allen and Matt Giraud.
Now let’s look at those in the top 10 who would not be marketable. It does not take a rocket scientist to see which contestants would be hard to market across the board and here they are. I will explain why.
First is Michael Sarver. Michael Sarver would probably be a good Country singer, but at the beginning he stated which genre he prefers to sing.
Micahel Sarver would have limited success after Idol. He is relatively too old to start a music career and what type of music would he sing? Nice guy, but nice guys finish last, as he should be in this competition.
Michael Sarver said that his favorite music is Motown and Soul. Michael Sarver would be highly unsuccessful in those genres. Persons who buy Soul and R/B would not relate to Michael Sarver because he comes off as a ‘good ol’ Country boy’ and those two genres do not mix. Yes Justin Timberlake was a Country singer as a child, but as teen he changed to a R/B Soul singer. Unlike Justin Timberlake, Michael Sarver started off too late. Sarver is already 28 years of age and young people did not grow up with Sarver as they had with Justin Timberlake.
Michael Sarver is already married and has a family, which you can’t hold that against the guy, but he is already pasted his prime. Being 28 is not a bad thing, but in the music industry that is old. Plus the type of music Sarver wants to sing to don’t mesh. Sarver does not have Pop/Soul/R and B looks. He has the look of…well, an Oil Rig gay, not a star. He lacks star looks and star personality.
Now there is a caveat, Sarver could possibly enter the Country Music genre. That might, and the word is might, get him some attention after Idol. Even beautiful Kristy Lee Cook, who is young, found it hard to make it in the Country music genre and from the beginning Kristy made it clear she was a Country singer. If Kristy Lee Cook could not make it in the Country genre, how is an over weight, older, plain looking 28 year old man going to do what she couldn’t. No young person would put a poster up of Michael Sarver or want to buy a magazine with his face on it.
So I just don’t see Michael Sarver being a successful singer after the Idol.
The next person who is non- marketable is Scott McIntyre.
Scott is a throwback to singers like Captain and Tennelle. Even they were not that good. Scott has the same look and feel of those early bland singers. Not marketable, but we suspect Scott gets a lot of votes because he is disabled.
Scott McIntyre reminds me of singers from the early 1970s. Singers like the Carpenters, Christopher Cross, and Captain and Tennelle. Sure they were OK during that time when music was extremely basic and there was not that much competition on the airwaves. Scott even looks like singers from those early bland musicays d, with is soft fro and vanilla looks. Scott singing is like a throwback to those olden times also, that many young people today would not like.
What type of music would Scott create and put out that would sell? “Mandolin Rain” type of music would never go well in today’s market. Be honest. Can you imagine teens and pre-teens, even adults, listening to Scott’s music on their ipod? I don’t think so. Matt’s piano playing sounds a lot better than Scott’s, so you can put that idea aside if you were going to market Scott. You might as well just market Matt Giraud instead. You would have a better chance of selling his music than Scott’s
I think that many people are voting for Scott because they feel bad for him because he is blind and not his singing. Which is actually a terrible thing. Because if we were to treat everyone, including the blind, equally then we should judge Scott by his singing and music which is dated and not that good.
The next singer is Lil Rounds.
Lil Rounds, seems like a singer from the past, but the past is not the future. Dated hairstyle, dated fashion sense and certainly not a Rihanna or Beyonce.
Yes, Lil Rounds is a fabulous singer. She can sing like nobodies business, but unfortunately in today’s music market being a great singer isn’t the only thing that pushes cds and download sales on itunes. You have to also be ‘current’. One thing about Lil is she seems very old fashioned and dated. Like a throw back to the olden days of really great soulful singers. Lil appears to be older looking for her age. She appears to be an old lady in a young persons competition. It is like she started late in her career.
Lil stated that she is not a Country singer but a ‘Soul’ and R/B singer. Most of today’s NEW successful Soul and R/B singers are young. That is a fact. There are older established Soul singers like Mary Jane Blige, but she has been out there for ages. Also there is a flooded market of Soulful singers and most of them are young and hip from Beyonce to Rihanna to Leona Lewis. If you compare them to Lil, Lil appears to be like their older auntie. Many young people would not buy her music and the major purchasers of her type of Soul music are young teens and pre-teens. If they had a chance to buy a Beyonce CD or Lil Rounds’ Cd I know who the teens would buy.
Another factor is Lil Rounds style of dress. She dresses like a mother who wants to be young instead of a youthful star. The pants that Lil wore that Simon blasted was a clear indication of her style. If you were a concert promoter can you just can’t imagine Lil dancing and performing in front of a large group of young people in outfits like Beyonce or Rihanna? No, you can’t and that is why Lil is outdated. Some of the other older American Idol Soul singers who sang better than Lil, like Fantasia, Lakisha and Melinda, even Jennifer Hudson, have had limited success in selling CDs and downloads.
Then there is Anoop Desai or Anoop-Dawg, as his large fanbase calls him.
Because he has a large fanbase, Anoop will have a large ‘fail’ after the show. His fans will try to prove me wrong, but step back and take a real good look and watch the previous Anoop performances besides Country week. One out of four good performances does not make great singer performer.
Last be not least is Danny Gokey.
Danny Gokey, well loved by many, but also well hated by many also. Gokey is not Idol material and would have limited success in the music industry. Some have even named Gokey the Taylor Hicks of Season 8.
Danny Gokey is actually a great singer, but great singing does not sell out concert halls and venues. Sorry Paula, but like your praise of Taylor Hicks, Gokey is similar to Hicks.
First there is a lot of love by his fans out there in America and the world, but there is also a lot of disdain and dislike for Gokey. Gokey has the type of personality either you love him or hate his guts and that is not a good thing in the music biz. Many of the major music reviewers, who hold powerful positions, can’t stand Gokey and they would be constantly trying to ‘take him down’ at every chance they get. Which would limit and hinder any positive press that a label would generate for him. Unlike Clay Aiken, who was the underdog, Gokey was the first to pimped and many times the person who is overly pimped and praised has backlash in the general music buying public.
Then there is the nagging question. What would Gokey sing after the show? Christian Soul? Like Anoop, that is one of the questions many of their fans have stumbled when pressed. Sure Gokey can copy some great songs that previous artists have done, but what type of songs would Gokey create and perform?
Soul singers like Ruben Studdard, Fantasia, and Melinda Doolittle have had limited success, yet they sing better than Danny Gokey. So what genre of music would Gokey do after the American Idol tour ends?
Gokey is also not youthful and is too plain looking for teens and pre-teens to get really into. The youth market is very important part of the equation. Younger music buyers look for the total package and Gokey just does not fit that. A successful singer contestant after Idol has to be able to span the different age groups. That is why David Cook and David Archuleta were extremely popular after the American Idol Tour. Posters of David Cook and David Archuleta fill the rooms of Teens, pre-teens and even adults. I don’t think the same could be said of Danny Gokey. There will be no pre-teen, braces wearing, money spending teens buying Gokey posters and merchandise in the near future.
In fact I don’t see any Sarver, McIntyre, Lil Rounds, Anoop-dawg, or Gokey faces plastering any teen magazines or even Rolling Stone. I could see TMZ stories about how these contestants were failures after American Idol Season 8, a-la-Taylor Hicks, if they were to win or even place 2nd.
So take those rose-colored glasses off and see the future…lol

If you are record producer or record executive I bet you already know this. Not every American Idol singer or even winner has been successful or will be in future. There are only a few who will pass the test and even then it is not a guarantee. American Idol season 8 2009 could possibility turn out the same after the final confetti drop and the winner sings the cheesy final song.
Many times the general public will get behind a contestant who has been featured before the true competition starts off. They are shown in Hollywood week or during the auditions. Some contestants were fantastic like Clay Aiken, Daugherty, Carrie Underwood, and David Archuleta. Some proved themselves when the show started like David Cook. But these contestants seldom had a bad week or a really bad performance. Sure once or twice they forgot the words but they were also very consistent.
There were some years when fans bases fell for people who, let’s say their talents were not that great, but they were gonna make sure they won or got in the top 4. Examples were Taylor Hicks and Blake Lewis. Their fanbases were sure that they would be ‘marketable’ and ‘current’, but even I could tell that they were not and this season 8 it is the same. Already some large fan bases have gotten behind some contestants who are the same as Hicks or Lewis.
These fans don’t see the total picture. There is a factor that I call “Teen Magazine-Teen Poster” look. To be a successful artist in today’s music market it is a plus to have an appeal to young teens and pre-teens. You can’t only rely on older middle age cougars and shut-ins. That was the problem with season fives Taylor Hicks. You need an artist who would sell not only music but you can plaster on posters and teen magazines to have a greater market share. You would make a lot money on selling other items besides music. Items such as t-shirts and posters to people, especially the young teen market, who will buy these products in mass. The majority of young teens would never be caught dead with a poster of Taylor Hicks on their wall. Neither would teens buy a magazine with Hicks face on it. So that is what I call the “Teen Magazine-Teen Poster” factor. Which is also very important to package an artist. Some might disagree, but it is a major factor and that is how it works in the today’s music marketing.
First let’s start with those who have large fanbases this season and I know that you have already thought about them as record producers and record labels who might be popular and a would be a hit after American Idol is over.
The first one that would probably translate into a major star is Adam Lambert.
Adam, with his modern day Emo-Elvis looks is the fiercest on American Idol season 8.
Adam has the looks that attract young and old. When he appears on the stage or even walking down a city street certainly garners a lot of attention. Adam has looks that could appear on the cover of Rolling Stone or other rock magazines. Not only that but Adam has the look to appear on every magazine. Many young, and even many middle-aged people, notice Adam. Love him or hate him Adam’s name was a hot topic around the water cooler every week during Idol. Yes he is Gay, but the majority of people know that already. Young people, who are the principle music buyers, would readily accept Adam and his style. Adam is extremely current and different that if marketed correctly would be a major star. Adam is very commercial in today’s market and could be very successful. He knows modern fashion and has had the experience to carry it off. Adam is perfect for those who want to sell magazines because he is tailor made for magazine covers. He also has a cool vibe and would sell well in Europe and Asia because of his ‘fierceness”.
Second one who is marketable and would have possible commercial success is Allison Iraheta.
Allison Iraheta is Idol’s youngest contestant and would have cross appeal to different age groups. Plus Allison could possibly open up the Spanish speaking market.
Yes, it is true that her fanbase is not that large if you were to look at the American Idol fanboard, but I recall Taylor Hicks and Blake Lewis had huge fanbases, but after the show they abandoned them once the tour was over.
First Allison is young, at only 16 years old, soon to be 17, Allison is the youngest contestant on the show. She was a former winner on a Telemundo show called LaQuincera. Allison can also sing in Spanish. Which means she can not only do recordings and CDs in English, but also capture the large Spanish speaking Market. If a record label could channel Allison correctly they could open up not only an English speaking audience, but also the huge Spanish music listening and buying market. Allison could also do covers of Teen Magazines and be very commercial with young teens who would want to follow her career. Allison dresses modern and her hair style is very modern also. Plus many older people who watch Idol and want that pure Rock sound will remember Allison’s big voice. The older viewers will remember that Allison has never had a bad week so far and because of her exposure on American Idol would look for her music.
Allison also seems like she could be get a lot of a young girl following who would want to imitate her style.
Another person who would be Marketable and who is flying under the wire is Kris Allen.
Kris Allen is very marketable. Not only is he a smooth singer, he plays the guitar. Kris has a smooth voice and has killer teen magazine cover looks make him a “Tender Pup” as Simon Cowell referred to him.
So far Kris Allen has not had a bad week. With his boyish teen idol good looks and easy-gong demeanor Kris Allen would be commercially viable to the young teen market. His voice is a beautiful voice, plays the guitar, which is always a girl magnet and he has a face ready made for Teen Magazines and posters. Kris has even appeared on several Gay websites and has a somewhat Gay following because there are photos of him floating around the Internet with Kris shirtless. He has a Jason Mraz, folk singing, folk guitar strumming sound. Looks are very important in marketing of this type of singer and he has that. Kris would not only sell music, but merchandise. Kris is reportedly humble and boyishly shy which many girls like. He already has music out there and it is very marketable. Kris is different then the other contestants who are mostly Rock and R/B-Soul singers. He is one of the few who sing folk style music. Kris could also cross over to Country, which he did very well on Country night. One major problem, Kris got married before he went to Hollywood to perform on Idol, which could be a career downer, but then again Chris Daugherty was married and that never hurt his career.
One of the best soul and R/B singers on the show that is marketable is Matt Giraud.
Matt Giraud has a Justin Timberlake vibe, but for the serious music follower. Fashionable and personable Matt with his soulful voice would be marketable.
Matt is young and very cool. Matt is an excellent piano player and has a very expressive face. He is attractive and also dresses modern. He has a close resemblance to Justin Tmberlake which would help him garner a bigger following with the ladies. His voice is amazing when he sticks to the jazzy genre of music. Matt has a very soulful and modern vibe, like a cross between Michael Buble and John Legend. Matt style and voice crosses the balladeer with R/B, plus his piano playing is amazing alone. He did have a problem when he tried to go outside of his genre, but successfully brought it back to his true genre, which is a soulful smoky sound. His personalty seems really outgoing and friendly and audiences would be able to connect with Matt and his type of music. Matt is also a songwriter which is a major plus to recording companies and labels. That adds an extra edge to Matts commercial viability.
Matt not only could be a great successful singer, but also a great musician.
Now we were heading to the center. One person who could carry that off is Megan Joy, who dropped her married name of Corkery.
Megan Joy could appear on America’s Next Top Model with her looks and long legs, plus the girl can sing. Which are marketable traits to be current in today’s music market.
Megan started off great and modern, but through out the show the genres have been hard on her besides catching the flu. Megan has model looks. She is a cross between Reese Whiterspoon and Taylor Swift. Megan is tall and tattooed. With Magazine cover looks she could easily be on Teen Magazines or even fashion women’s mags. She dresses modern and looks great in most fashions. That is quality that many young CD and music buyers look for, and Megan has that in droves. Megan is very edgy and likes Bjork, and in today’s market it is not only looks that teens want and identify with, but edginess and Megan has those qualities. She is quick to laugh and joke and does not seem to take herself seriously. That means that she would be easy to work with and not a diva. There are too many divas in today’s music industry and Megan does not appear to be a diva but fun loving girl. She does have this quirky child-like dance but that is also very endearing to many people. Which she could easily control after some work.
So even though Megan has had some ‘unfortunate’ nights like her “Rockin’ Robin” song with her final “Caw-Caw”, Megan Joy is very marketable on many different levels.
My next blog I will discuss those on American Idol season 8 who do don’t appear to be marketable or would have little commercial success.
